Following the successful launch of our holiday anthology 12 Knights of Christmas, Button Hall is delighted to announce the next volume in our festive series:
The Knight Before Christmas — A cozy collection of swoony, heart-warming stories where knights in shining armor get a modern holiday twist.
We’re seeking short stories (5,000–8,000 words) that blend the magic of the season with the timeless allure of the “knight in shining armor.”
Knights can be literal or figurative — whether in a small-town café, a snow-dusted city street, or a medieval castle decked out for Yuletide.

What We’re Looking For
- Romance first: Hallmark-style love stories with a happily-ever-after or happy-for-now ending.
- Holiday spirit: Cozy, festive, and full of Christmas magic.
- A Knightly Twist: Your “knight” could be a modern-day protector, an everyday hero, or an actual knight, contemporary or historical settings are both welcome.
- Tone: Warm, escapist, and worry-free. Think meet-cutes, mistletoe, mulled wine, and snowy swoons.
Guidelines
- Length: 5,000–8,000 words
- Genre: Romance (sweet to steamy, but no erotica, horror, or major triggers)
- Deadline: January 15, 2026
- Format: Word Doc, 12-pt font, double-spaced
